What does it mean to be MORE you?
I first remember hearing this phrase when I read Peter H. Reynold’s book, Be You. If you don’t own it yet, grab at least 10 copies. 1 for you and 9 for people you love. It is a fantastic reminder to embrace your whole self, quirks and all. The most impactful part of it for me… on the last page he writes a little note to the reader, and as he closes, he encourages “be MORE you.”
I am learning a bit more every day about the beauty of this idea. But before I can be more me, I have to accept the beautiful wonder that is me. Growing up a gay kid in a conservative, Southern Baptist family kept me from this for a long time. But, I am growing. Some days I can hear my own growth like you can hear the corn sprout in the thick of summer.
I ask myself often… What makes me a unique being to the world other than my genetic code and fingerprints. I’m still not sure what that is just yet, but every single day I strive to learn more about myself and to be more me. I hope you will be more you too.
